Mark Warren farms Waipari Station, a 1300ha hill country property near Omakere in the Central Hawkes Bay. A great believer in hunting out new opportunities, Warren rears lambs to supply the Atkins Ranch Brand, supplying high quality wool to the Just Shorn supply chain and operates a well-respected four-wheel drive training operation called Hillseekers 4WD.
Like any farming operation, Waipari utilises tractors, so when Mark was looking for a good second-hand tractor, he chanced across the Kioti brand at Power Farming Hawke’s Bay in Hastings, and realised that a new tractor could be on the property for around the same money as a used unit. At the start of 2018, a new Kioti RX6030 ROPS with front-end loader arrived, and to date, has clocked up around 200 hours.
Described by Warren as the ideal ‘stockman’s tractor’ the nuggety Kioti sees service throughout the station. Undertaking tasks such as carrying bundles of posts for fencing, loading and unloading pallets and bales, spraying blackberries, and when required, standing in for the larger tractors with cropping and cultivation duties.
Delivering 60hp from a Daedong 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and mated to a synchro-shuttle transmission with 24 forward and 24 reverse speeds. Warren describes the tractor as uncomplicated and easy to drive, whilst also offering great access on and off the operator platform, which forms a big part of a stockman’s day. Add to this, features like 4WD, diff-lock, good lift capacity and hydraulic flow, then this is truly a great utility tractor.
Mark also comments “The tractor is ideal for those who are not mechanically minded and is a great unit for doing those odd jobs around the property. I also like some of the neat design details like the tight turning front axle that gives the tractor great manoeuvrability, while the loader frame also incorporates some safety stays to block the main lift rams should someone be working under the loader when it’s raised. For people like ourselves operating on steep hill country, the tractor is safe, reliable and just what we need - it fits our requirements to a tee”.
